Open Insurances International Travelers Policies

1.- Why do I need traveler's insurance with Open Insurances if I have my health insurance?

Because it protects international travelers from the high costs and inconveniences of hospitalizations, surgeries, medical consultations, medications, medical evacuations, political evacuations, cancellation of trips and interruptions, airline bankruptcies, loss of luggage and return of mortal remains.

Social Security does not have coverage in all countries and where it exists, it does not guarantee the repatriation of mortal remains, terrorism, loss of luggage, compensation for accidents, compensation for interruption of travel, guidance of travel experts and critical situations during 24 hours, 365 days a year or a network of thousands of international doctors and hospitals.

2.- I am a healthy person and take good care of myself. Is travel insurance really necessary?

Yes, considering that 12 out of 100 tourists experience some form of unexpected illness, medical emergency or accident when traveling.

3. Which destination countries does Open Insurances’ policies cover?

We offer worldwide coverage except to Iran and Syria.

4.- Which applicants’ addresses of residence are not covered?

By residency addresses in USA: We offer coverage to applicants from USA except those whose addresses of residence are in: Colorado, Maryland, New York, South Dakota and Washington. Any non-resident traveler from these cities who travels to these cities will be insured. For example: a Brazilian who travels to New York will be insured.

By addresses of residence in other countries: We offer coverage for applicants except those whose address of residence are in: Australia, Canada, Gambia, Ghana, Iran, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Syria, Switzerland and the US Virgin Islands.

5.-How long can I be outside my home country if I have an annual policy?

We offer 3 terms: 30 days, 45 days and 90 days of continuous travel. After this period, the insured must return to his country of origin or buy any of our products.

7.-How much is the maximum covered for medical expenses by Open Insurances policies?

Limit of medical expenses for injuries and illnesses that occur during the coverage period: USD 1,000,000 for insured persons from 14 days of age to 69 years, when traveling to USA.

USD 50,000 for 70 years old and up to 79 years old when traveling to USA.

USD 25,000 for insured travelers over 80 years of age when traveling to USA.

Outside the USA: covers USD 1,000,000 from 14 days of age and up to 69 years. From the age of 70 up to 79 years it covers up to USD 100 thousand, more than 80 years and up to 120 years coverage up to USD 50,000.vn

8.-Does the policy have a deductible or some co-insurance?

Policies do not have any deductible or co-insurance.

9.-Do the policies offer coverage for dental accidents?

Dental Accident Coverage 100% up to USD 300, Sudden Dental Pain Relief 100% up to USD 300.

10.-Do the policies offer coverage for any foot pain, springs or nail pain caused by long walks during my travel?

The policies cover Physiotherapists / Chiropractors 100% up to USD 300 when treatment is prescribed by a physician.

11.- How does Emergency Medical Evacuation / Repatriation works and how much does it cover?

It covers USD 1,000,000 (Paid in addition to the maximum medical fee).

If medically necessary, we will transport you to the nearest appropriate medical facility. We will take you back home after an evacuation. This benefit must be coordinated and approved by Seven Corners.

12. How does the Return of Mortal Remains work and how much does it cover?

It covers USD 1,000,000 (Paid in addition to the maximum medical fee).

13.-How does the Political Evacuation works and how much does it cover?

If you make a formal recommendation to leave the host country, we will transport you to your home country.

It covers USD 1,000,000.

14.-Does Open Insurances cover medical expenses caused by a terrorist act?

Yes, it covers medical expenses incurred by a terrorist act up to USD 1,000,000.

15.- What happens if I have an accident and I have to return my minor children to the house? How much does it cover?

If you are traveling alone with minor children and are hospitalized, we will transport the children home with an escort. Covers up to USD 1,000,000.

This benefit must be coordinated and approved by Seven Corners.

16.-How is the Emergency Meeting activated with a relative of the insured who lives outside the country where the accident occurred?

If you need an emergency medical meeting, we will send you a person of your choice to be with you while you are in the hospital.

It covers the person of your choice USD 300 per day up to 10 days, plus return airfare in economy class. This benefit must be coordinated and approved by Seven Corners.

17.- What is the coverage of Local Ambulance Expenses?

It covers up to USD 1,000,000, can be air or land, depending on the situation.

18.-How does the air ambulance service work?

Seven Corners has an internal support unit that coordinates evacuations and repatriations. In addition, we are linked with a specialized outside company that works with Seven Corners to get the most competitive air ambulance provider agreement for each individual.

19.-Do the policies cover sports activities, including winter sports?

It covers participation in Amateur Athletics activities that are not of contact or collision, and in which the insured participates exclusively for recreational, entertainment or fitness purposes, or that are between colleges or interscholastics. Indoor sports include tennis, squash, ultimate frisbee, kickball, volleyball, track and field, water polo, baseball, basketball, aerobics, dancing, sailing, sea kayaking / canoeing, horseback riding, surfing, snowboarding (marked trails), roller skating, skating and swimming.

Soccer and football must be covered with the option of extreme sports coverage. (DOGTAG).

Covers up to USD 1,000,000.

 

20.-Do you offer any accidental death and dismemberment (AD & D) insurance?

If purchased as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium), it covers up to USD 75,000 Principal Amount for the policy holder and their spouse, and USD 3,000 Primary Amount for policy holders under 18 years.

 

21.-How much does checked luggage loss cover?

If purchased as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium) it covers up to USD 2,000 per event, limited to USD 50 per item, in addition of airline refund.

22.-How does the delay of luggage work?

If you buy it as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium) it covers up to USD 500 per event (when traveling outside your country of origin) if luggage is delayed or misdirected by the transporter for more than 12 hours.

23.-How much does my policy cover for property damage?

If you buy it as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium) it covers USD 500,000.

24.-How does the coverage of Civil Liability-Bodily Injury work?

Injury work:

If purchased as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium) it covers up to USD 1,000,000 for:

1.-Injury to a third person occurring during the coverage period; and/or.

2.-Loss or damage to the personal property of a third person during the coverage period; and/or.

3.-Damage or loss to the personal property of a related third person during the coverage period.

25.-How does the trip interruption coverage work?

If you buy it as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium) it covers USD 100 per day up to USD 500. We will reimburse you the cost of travel to your home if you can’t continue your trip due to the death of an immediate family member or damage to your residence (fire, flood, tornado or other similar natural disasters).

 

26.-How does the travel delay coverage work?

If purchased as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium) it covers USD 100 per day up to USD 500, if it is delayed on the way to or from the covered trip for 12 hours or more due to a defined danger.

 

27.-How does the flight delay coverage work, if purchased as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium)?

It covers USD 100 per day up to USD 500, if it is delayed en route to or back from the covered trip for 12 hours or more due to a cancellation.

It covers USD 100 per day up to USD 500, if it is delayed for 3 hours or more of all scheduled airline flights due to inclement weather or any delay caused by a common carrier.

 

28.-How does the travel cancellation coverage work?

If you buy it as an Enhanced Optional Benefit (Plus or Premium), it covers up to USD 2,000. It covers the cost of the non-refundable and prepaid travel amount if you can’t make the trip due to a covered reason.

29.- Why should I purchase a travel cancellation policy as an Enhanced Benefit (Plus or Premium)?

Many things can cause disruption of a trip! Fortunately, our travel protection plans deal with such disturbances and allow you to protect your investment in the journey. For example: if you get the flu the day before you are scheduled to leave and you can’t go on your trip, we will pay for your non-refundable travel expenses! We also protect you for many other covered reasons that may cause the cancellation, delay or disruption of your trip.

 

30.-What reasons does the travel cancellation and interruption policy cover?

Illness, injury or death, Jury Duty (notified prior to effective date of policy), Quarantine, Appearance ordered by the court, Traffic Accident, Uninhabitable Residence, Strike, Criminal Assault, Military Relief, Termination / Dismissal / Transfer, Climate, Terrorist Incident, Airline Bankruptcy, Cruise Line or Tour Operator Where You Have Purchased Your Travel Package, Kidnapping, Natural Disasters. Some coverage applies as of the effective date of the policy, limited to a number of days specified in the policy detail and others before.

 

31.- How do we make it easier for you to join United Health Care in the USA?

Open Insurances by Sevencorners maintains a worldwide network of healthcare providers and in the USA. with United Health Care.

When calling your medical provider or submitting your ID Card,  You should say: “My health care coverage uses United Health Care Network and I found your name in the directory of healthcare providers”

32.-If today I buy the policy, am I insured today?

 

No, the coverage start date is granted the day after the application and payment of the policy is made. No coverage is granted from the same day of the application.

 

33.-What is the effective date of the end of the coverage?

From 11:59 PM Eastern time on the first of the following:

1.) When you return to your country of origin (except for coverage of the country of origin); or

2.) The end of the period for which the cost of the plan has been paid; or

3.) The date on which the insured is not considered an eligible person; or

4.) The maximum amount of the benefit has been paid.

 

34.-Who will be covered by the policy?

You can purchase for yourself, your legal spouse, domestic or civil partner, as well as your unmarried children older than 14 days and under 19 years of age.

35.-What should I do to file a claim?

Send an email to claims@sevencorners.com within 90 days identifying the full name and policy number of the insured (Certificate #), for example: ATR17-170403-01TM-100005. Include:

  1. Copy of the main page of passport and copy of the page in the passport where the stamp of entry to the country you are visiting is.
  2. Detailed invoices of expenses that include the name of the person who was treated, type of illness or injury, description and charge for each service.
  3. Receipt of payment.
36.-What expenses must be pre-certified by Seven Corners?

Hospitalizations, rehabilitation for hospitalized patients, outpatient care / surgeries, diagnostic procedures including MRI, MRA, CT and PET scans, chemotherapy, radiation, physical and occupational therapies, infusion therapy and/or health care at home. To pre-certify the expenses you must contact Seven Corners Assist within the first 48 hours and before incurring the expense. The lack of pre-certification of expenses will be reduced by 25%.

In general, we recommend to communicate before 48 hours after the accident with Seven Corners to authorize the expenses and steps to follow.

37.-Does the Open Insurances traveler's policy cover pre-existing illnesses?

Travel policies usually do not cover pre-existing illnesses.

It does not cover any medical condition, illness, injury, mental illness or nervous mental disorder, regardless of cause (including any congenital, chronic, subsequent or recurrent complications or consequences related to or resulting from it) which with reasonable medical certainty was already manifested, symptomatic, known, diagnosed, treated or previously disclosed at the time of application or thirty-six (36) months prior to the effective date of the coverage under this policy.

It specifically includes, but is not limited to, any medical condition, illness, injury, mental illness or mental disorder, for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended, received or for which a reasonably prudent person had requested treatment during the period of thirty-six (36) months immediately preceding the effective date of the coverage under this policy.

38.-Do the policies cover if I live in the USA and want to travel from one state to the other?

It does not cover because it is a benefit plan intended to be used outside of your country of origin, meaning that it covers if the US resident travels outside the US.

39.-Do you offer specialized policies that cover annual motorcycle touring?

If you get coverage through a specialized program called ARMOR, become ill or injured and can’t return to your home operating your motorcycle, or if you suffer an accident that causes damage to your motorcycle that prevents you from driving, the Annual Plan offers you coverage.

40. Do you offer specialized policies that cover extreme sports?

We offer a 24-hour exclusive accident plan (DOGTAG) that offers coverage for sports that are typically excluded from most insurance policies. Protection for more than 400 sports and activities from abseiling to Sphericalism and much more!

41.-If I am a student and want to travel to study, do you offer some type of traveler's policy for trips of more than 90 consecutive days?

Yes, we offer policies designed for Students and their dependents at a reasonable price.

42.-Do you offer specialized travelers policies for more than 1 year?

We offer LIAISON MAJESTIC, up to 3 years of medical coverage for new illnesses or injuries that occur during the trip.

43.-Can I request a policy adapted for groups?

If your group has at least 5 or more non-family members, then your group qualifies for one of the many LIAISON GROUP EXPRESS insurance plans: Companies, Non-Federated Sports Teams, Schools, Non-Governmental Organizations, Missionary Groups, Organizations.

44.-Why do Group Users need travel insurance?

Medical – What if a member of the group gets sick or has a wound? Do not assume that your health insurance will cover those events during the trip, if they are simply out of network or traveling abroad. In some cases, group members may be traveling in areas without proper medical care. Who will handle an emergency evacuation and who will pay for it?

Security – How will you deal with terrorist threats or natural disasters? These events and many more can affect the safety and health of your group.

Financial – Any of the above scenarios can be expensive and could affect the wallet of a group member or the organization promoting the trip. In addition, travel costs can be great; we offer options to protect travel expenses paid in advance if any group member has to cancel their trip.

46.- Does the policy cover the displacement of an insured person who is walking via land? For example, crossing on foot from one border to another.

Yes, it covers as long as they are less than 14,000 feet in above sea level. There is no coverage if the hike includes a mountain with an elevation of more than 14,000 feet above sea level.

47.- How does an insured person who is outside the United States knows which is the nearest supplier, in case of an accident?

48.- What happens if I have paid my medical bills in a foreign currency and my doctor's receipts are in a foreign language?

The documents will be translated by Seven Corners. If the claim is considered eligible, you will be refunded in US dollars, based on the exchange rate for the US dollar at the date of service. Please note that claims must be filed within 90 days from the date of service.

49.-Can I feel secure with Open Insurances policies? I have seen many informal companies with very cheap policies without any support that do not pay the claims.

You can feel safe with the strong financial backing that Open Insurances’ Annual and Individual Travel Plans have from Lloyd’s Insurers of London, with an AM Best rating of “A” (excellent). Lloyd’s Insurers of London operate as an approved excess line market in the United States. Payments include a trust fee.

50.- How much does an Open Insurances travelers policy cost?

Prices range from USD 3 per day in the annual plan and vary depending on the type of policy, the duration of the trip, the destination, the age and the number of people traveling. To find out how much insurance costs, select the plan that fits your needs, and calculate your budget.

51.- How do I know that the online purchase is reliable and my data is well protected?

52.-Can I cancel my travel insurance?

Do not worry! You can cancel your coverage if you are not completely satisfied. A full refund is provided if you send us a written request for a refund, before your coverage begins.

53.-How many travel insurance companies should I study before buying a plan?

A good rule of thumb when comparing travel insurance options is to get a second and even a third opinion. You can compare prices and plans online and check that your medical coverage has a significant value to take care of your assets in case of an accident. Do not believe in 2 x 1 promotions or policies that are very cheap because they probably put your assets at risk. Read the fine print, make sure your insurer has the financial backing of some serious Underwriter with A rating.

It is the country where you have your true permanent residence. For citizens of the United States, the country of origin is always the United States.

1.) The day after the company receives your request and the correct payment, if the request and payment is made online or by fax; or,

2.) The day after the date of the seal of the mail of your request and the correct payment, if the request and payment is made by mail, or,

3.) The date required by the insured in your application.
